Epstein, Hoyer and McLeod have been given the task to produce a championship caliber team and restore the winning culture to Cubs baseball for years to come. It’s presumed that the Cubs will be active in the upcoming free agency period, but Hoyer has already made clear there will not be any quick fixes or shortcuts taken on the road to rebuilding this franchise. The Cubs current roster boast several bright spots centered around their young All Star short stop, Starlin Castro, who led the team in batting average (.307) and hits (91) last season while also racking up 22 stolen bases. On the mound, the Cubs will return their top 2 pitchers, Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza, who led the Cubs in every statistical pitching category last year with the exception of saves.
Epstein and the Cubs franchise have a lot of questions to answer before taking the field next April, but they’ve made it clear that the team won’t be satisfied with anything other than winning from now on.
